I just could not resist creating a Harry Potter bullet journal spread for September! With school starting and the change of seasons, warm sweaters, and pumpkin spice lattes (☕ my favourite!!) I felt it fitting that September is my Harry Potter bujo theme. Plus, it is the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first book!
20 YEARS! ⚡
For those of you not familiar with Harry Potter… 😥
Wikipedia! says it best:
“Harry Potter is a series of fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The novels chronicle the lives of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story arc concerns Harry’s struggle against Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard who intends to become immortal, overthrow the wizard governing body known as the Ministry of Magic, and subjugate all wizards and Muggles (non-magical people).”
Seriously people read it!
Now onto my Magical Harry Potter Bullet Journal September pages:
I even splurged on pens for this spread. I purchased the Tombow Dual Brush Pen Markers in the primary colours and I am in love! These are awesome! They do not bleed or smear. Having the dual tips allows for fine detailing or colouring. The brush tip is just like a paint brush. It also comes with a super cool blending brush, which allows you to blend colours to create new colours or it allows you to pick up colours so you can write or colour to a fade out.
Disclaimer: All of the pens I use do NOT smear. I have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) which, for myself, presents in my hands. Therefore, no matter what I use it will smear when my hands are on the page. 🤷♀️
I really wanted to make a ‘plan with me’ video… but I have to turn my bujo in every direction to colour and trace etc. (How do those people do it with a completely flat, still book… probably wizards)
Title Page – Hogwarts Castle
I went with the classic Hogwarts silhouette and Harry Potter font for the title page. I added a Hedwig sticker (hopefully he is delivering my letter).
I got many stickers from the following products. They come with a miniature model and a sticker book! I have even used these miniatures to make a Harry Potter Christmas wreath!
Calendar – Marauder’s Map
Rather than going with my classic block style calendar, I made it more open by only drawing the corners of the squares. Since I used the Marauder’s Map theme I wanted it to feel like the footprints could go in and out of each date. I used an Artist’s Loft marker to colour in the banners and highlight the date. It makes it look like parchment paper. This marker bled through just slightly, which made me very apprehensive to continue using it (but I did – I just used the brush tip, instead of the chisel tip).
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” ~ Albus Dumbledore (Prisoner of Azkaban – film)
This is one of my favourite Harry Potter quotes! J.K. Rowling never wrote it, it appeared in The Prisoner of Azkaban film delivered by Michael Gambon. I believe it resonates with me because of my depression. When I am in dark times, remember to look for the light.
Notice how all my ‘i’ dots are candle flames. 😊 🕯
For my weekly layouts, I made each week a Hogwarts house (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin). They are in the order of the house tables in the great hall 🤓. I made each day like a piece of parchment paper. I used the Artist’s Loft marker to highlight the dates.
Potterheads: Did you notice the discrepancy on this page? The crest has the raven (movie version) and then the emblem is an eagle head (books). I also used silver as the accent (movie version).
I am using house points as my habit tracker this month. My triumphs will earn me points while my rule-breaking will lose points (not really… because you can’t erase marker). 😊 So, my habits will earn points, while not doing my habits will give Slytherin a point.
Now the problem with this habit tracker is it doesn’t give a monthly comprehensive view of where I need to improve. But I could write the date in each point as a way to track which days I do things.
For my mood tracker this month, I chose the scene where Harry receives his Hogwarts letter and has to try and get one from the flying letters. Of course, I stuck with the house colours for the emotions. It’s not a super accurate tracker (as I often have more than 1 dominant emotion in a day), but it’s easy and I tried to make my key of emotions more comprehensive.
For my gratitude log this month I drew the potion Felix Felicis. Liquid luck allows the drinker to have a perfect day (perfect for showing gratitude!).
Harry Potter-Thon (Reading and Movie Log)
And lastly, I made a Harry Potter-Thon or reading and movie log. Every year I re-read the books and watch the movies. This was a perfect time to do it. I have also left some room to write notes about the book or the feelings it provokes and why I love the series so much!
I have attended almost every book release and related party at bookstores. I received these stickers at one of the events and they worked perfectly for this spread. One could also print the book covers off the internet and glue them in.
